Fujiyoshida City will welcome players and members of the French Rugby Federation as the training site for the French National Men’s and Women’s Rugby Sevens teams leading up to the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Subsequently it is expected that large numbers of international tourists will visit Mt. Fuji, Arakurayama Sengen Park and Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine.

In anticipation of this, the city has created the “Omotenashi Fujiyoshida Host Town Conversation Handbook” a conversational phrase book to help ease conversation between visitors and locals.

The handbook not only features French and English phrases for everyday conversation, but also includes information on French history, culture, cuisine and tourism, as well as French rugby, and the rules of the sport.

Because the handbook was published a year before the Games, elementary schools in the city have had the opportunity to review the content with their students in their classrooms and as homework over school vacations. Moreover, because it has been made available for free in all municipal buildings, many residents have taken a copy and have been able to learn more about France and get even more excited for the Games.
