Sakura Season in Fujiyoshida City
As an Olympic Host Town with France, Fujiyoshida City has strived to implement a wide range of social, economic and cultural exchanges with France that are not just limited to the world of sports. As a region we enthusiastically plan and implement these exchanges in an effort promote regional development and local tourism.
Each time we’ve welcomed guests from France who take part in these exchanges, we make certain that they get to experience the quintessential view of Mt. Fuji, crimson five-storied pagoda and cherry blossoms from Arakurayama Sengen Park.
Though it is this view that has become famous throughout the world, Fujiyoshida City boasts numerous other spots for viewing cherry blossoms.

As part of the Host Town initiative, we have worked diligently to globally promote local tourism which needless to say extends beyond the undeniable allure Arakurayama Sengen Park. One such promotional effort was our participation last year in the JAPAN EXPO 2019 in Paris, the largest-scale event for introducing and promoting Japanese culture in the west.
At the venue we distributed card cases made with local textiles and designed after the iconic view from Arakurayama Sengen Shrine while introducing our work as an Olympic Host Town in hopes that we’re able to welcome many visitors from France during the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Unfortunately due to the global pandemic of COVID-19 the Arakurayama Sengen Park was closed during this year’s cherry blossom season, disappointing many. As a result, the city produced a video using drone technology to capture footage of the park for those who were let down by this year’s closure. We hope that the virus is under control and that we are able to welcome guests again by this time next year.
