Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games: Reception for the French Female Rugby Sevens during their Pre-tournament Training Camp
The French Female Rugby Sevens prepared for the Tokyo 2020 Games at their pre-tournament training camp in Fujiyoshida City. Their training camp lasted July 11-26 and on July 17 (Saturday), the city hosted a welcome reception for the team.
The Fujisan Kaen Taiko Drumming Troupe which had previous exchanges with team performed at the reception. Though in previous years, players and staff were invited on stage to try their hand and playing the drums with the group, this year due to the COVID restrictions in place, the team watched the performance from their respective seats.
A video of local preschoolers cheering for the team seemed to move the players who commented “thank you for the amazing hospitality”

【Shooting the video message】
The video message featured messages not only from local preschoolers but also from the training venue and hotel staff. (The video message can be seen on the city’s official YouTube channel.)

The city gifted a DVD of the video message to the team.
Though in-person exchanges continue to be difficult due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the city hopes to continue using alternative mediums to continue engagements.
