Iwate and Fukushima to promote the Tokyo 2020 “ARIGATO” Host Town Initiative at LA’s JAPAN HOUSE
With one year left until the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, Japan is hard at work preparing for this massive event. Part of those preparations include the Host Town Initiative, a Japanese government project that encourages sporting, cultural, and educational exchange between participating countries and their respective Host Towns throughout Japan.
In northern Japan, Hanamaki City and Ofunato City of Iwate Prefecture, and Kitakata City and Minamisoma City of Fukushima Prefecture are all linked to American cities or people through this initiative. Iwate and Fukushima were also devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, but were greatly supported by the United States and the rest of the world. In order to promote this initiative, as well as show their appreciation to the United States, representatives of these four cities will be traveling to Los Angeles to attend a panel discussion and reception at the JAPAN HOUSE.
