France Host Town Festival in Fujihokuroku
In celebration of Fujiyoshida city’s designation as an Olympic Host Town to France, we hosted the “France Host Town Festival in Fujihokuroku” at Fujiyoshida Civic Hall on November 4, 2018.
The purpose of the event was to offer the local community an opportunity to engage with the people and culture of France.
Mr. Samuel Ducroquet, the Olympic Attachee at the French Embassy in Tokyo, and Mr. Yuichi Ueno, our Legacy Advisor offered opening remarks at our opening ceremony, and we were joined by special guests from France including the former captain of the French National Team who led the team during the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
On the performance stage we were graced by Ms. Sonia Guiollot, an artist in residence from our French sister-city of Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France who performed a live painting representing the friendship between our two cities, while a rugby booth was set up to introduce the sport and our role as the training site for the Men’s and Women’s Sevens. Within the venue were several food and beverage stalls as well as informational booths for all of the surrounding cities, towns and villages serving as Host Towns during the Olympics. Over 3,000 people participated in the event and enjoyed French entertainment and refreshments.
