Kochi Prefecture: Best Environment for Top Athletes from Singapore toward the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Kochi Prefecture

Kochi Prefecture has hosted the first pre-Games training camp of swimming, table tennis, and badminton for Singapore’s top athletes in July 2019, ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games. Some 100 of top athletes and coaches of Team Singapore, including Joseph Schooling, a gold medalist in swimming at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, had a training camp in a comfortable environment.

Coaches of Team Singapore gave technical training to junior athletes in Kochi Prefecture during the training camp. Participants experienced world-class technical training and said, “I want to improve my skills.” and “I’d like to be stronger.”

We treated Team Singapore with local specialties of Kochi prefecture. They also relaxed and enjoyed Kochi’s culture such as the “Yosakoi dance” which has become famous not only domestically but also internationally.

This was the first time for Kochi Prefecture to host the pre-Games training camp for Team Singapore. The team commented, “Thanks to the excellent support from Kochi Prefecture, including the training environment and meals, we were able to have a productive training camp.”
Kochi prefecture is going to cheer for athletes from Singapore at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
