A Pre-Game Training Camp for Volleyball Canada will be held in Shiwa

Iwate Prefecture

With facilities such as the OGAL Arena, which houses the nation’s first volleyball exclusive court, and the OGAL Inn (accommodation facility), the town of Shiwa in Iwate Prefecture is equipped to provide a high standard environment for playing volleyball. In February 2020, the town was designated as an official pre-game training camp location for Volleyball Canada after signing an agreement. In addition, the town is in the process of signing another agreement with the Canadian Women’s Sitting Volleyball team to host their pre-game training camp for the Paralympic games.

Since it has become difficult to arrange direct exchanges due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Shiwa Town launched a video letter exchange with Volleyball Canada in May 2020 to replace face-to-face interactions.

The first video letter depicted the town’s measures against COVID-19, while also introducing several locations within the community. The town plans to continue creating more video letters in the future.
