Tokyo 2020 France Women’s Rugby Sevens Pre-training Camp Public Engagement (Public excitement and a warm welcome)
Fujiyoshida City hosted the pre-tournament training camp for the French Women’s Rugby Sevens leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from Sunday, July 11 through Monday, July 26. The city launched several projects to promote the camp and raise public awareness and enthusiasm.

Public employees raised awareness by wearing the polos at City Hall. The polos were also available for sale to the public and helped get the people excited and unified in preparation of the Games.

【Banner】
A large banner was hung at the front entrance of City Hall and the excitement for the team’s arrival was palpable.
【Video message】
Preschoolers, students of a local rugby school, staff from the team’s training facilities and staff from their hotel all helped to put together a video message for the team that was screened at the team’s welcome reception. Because the public was unable to get up close and personal with the team due to the pandemic, this video was a way for the team to engage with the local community. At the reception the team could be seen smiling and clapping for the messages of the screen.
【Celebratory Fireworks】

A fireworks show was put on for the team to both celebrate their time spent in the city and to get them motivated for the upcoming games. The team was visibly thrilled at fireworks of the French flag.
Fujiyoshida City will continue strengthening our relationship with the French national rugby team leading up to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
